SAD NOTICE
It is with great sadness that we report that our good friend Mitch (EA7KDO) has become a silent key on 2/6/24.
For those fortunate enough to have known Mitch, his profound impact and unwavering friendship are undeniable.
The memory of Mitch Savage will endure indefinitely, his legacy forever etched in our hearts.
As the founder of the TGIF Network, Mitch leaves behind a remarkable contribution to ham radio and beyond.
This upcoming Friday's TGIF net will be dedicated to Mitch, providing a space for us to gather, reminisce, and honor his remarkable life and achievements.
Rest in peace, Mitch.
Our heartfelt condolences extend to Mitch's wife and family during this difficult time.
Upstream link issue
The issues in Chicago are actually due to components in our routers overheating, due to a major datacenter outage with their cooling system.
We are unable to stop the packet loss for now as a result. We are actively monitoring for updates from the facility on a fix.
Hello TGIF Members - TGIF Server Funding
we have had to make a PayPal donation pot, to pay for our new servers as the old servers were all on NFO, we now have 3 servers that are on different providers and PayPal was the easy way to pay all in one go. Please all that had setup recurring payment on our old system they have now been cancelled, can you please setup again if would like on the new system, the link will be posted on the network dashboard in a few places until we get the funds to a set level, thanks in advance and Rob will be talking about it on friday nights Net. A small donation would greatly be appreciated and goes to the funding of our new Servers we have had to expand. Thanks so much for your support for TGIF. Here is a link..

Feature Release - Parrot
Parrot is a service that will record your transmission and send it back to you. This can be used to test your audio or connection. To use the parrot feature simply make either a group call or a private call to 9990 or 31000. Either number will work, and your hotspot will be the only station that hears the parrot echo your transmission back.

If you run into any issues or notice any bugs, please let us know: support (at) tgif.network
NOTICE - Updated User Profile
The user profile page now has tabs at the top that allow navigation between the common user information, self care, and pages for changing your email and password.
If you visited this page in the last couple of days and tried to change your email you may have had issues, those have been fixed now.
Another issue that has been addressed was the change talkgroup popup on the self care page staying up even after changing tabs. It should now be dismissed when you leave that tab, and a cancel button has been added to the popup.
NOTICE - Status Update
The following two items will apply when the talkgroup management panel is released.
Two Levels for TG AdministrationThere are currently just two levels of admin for a talkgroup. The highest is Trustee, and is only one person. The Trustee has access to an additional tab that has a button to delete the talkgroup, to transfer ownership of the talkgroup, and to add or remove SysOps. The SysOps are the second level, which have access to all of the other features on the page, but cannot delete or transfer the talkgroup, or manage sysops. We are using just these two levels right now to keep things simple, and later when we have more capabilities on the page we will change it to a system that allows you to specify the permissions for each sysop custom.
Every user gets their own personal talkgroup automaticallyFor each user/callsign, they will have a talkgroup show up under manage so they can try out the talkgroup admin page and features, and have a place they can use to experiment or use quickly with the full controls. This talkgroup will not have a name or show up in the list of talkgroups. The ID of the talkgroup will be the lowest value 7-digit dmr id under the accounts callsign. If you later decide you want to make a talkgroup that does show up in the list of talkgroups and has a name and want it to have that same dmr ID, you simply go request a talkgroup with the ID and after it gets approved it will show up with the name you requested and be in the list.
NEW - TGIF Net
Listen to the recording for the net from the 8th of January:
NOTICE - Talkgroup ID Policy
During this first transition week we have come across a few situations we had not thought about or run into before. One issue that came to our attention were requests for talkgroups that were the same number as an existing dmr ID. This was a seven digit ID that was requested, but repeater IDs are six digits. It is never fun for us to have to deny someone the talkgroup ID that they want, but we do not feel it would be a good policy to allow talkgroups to be created that are IDs under someone elses callsign. To Solve this issue, we have come up with a new policy that we hope most will agree is the best solution to solve this, but we are open to changing this policy if someone has a better suggestion on how to go about it. Get in touch if you have a suggestion! -TGIF Support
New Talkgroup ID Policy:
If you request a Talkgroup ID that is longer than 5 digits it will be rejected unless that ID is assigned to your callsign according to the database at radioid.net. In short, you can create talkgroups using any of your own radio or repeater IDs (6 digits for repeater, 7 for radio) as long as they belong to your callsign.
NEW - Prime Time!
We have finally begun the transition from legacy to prime! Check back frequently for new features and their documentation, and please leave feedback in the discord or contact us for support/questions!.
Listen to the recording for the first of three prime transition nets:
NOTICE - DDOS Attack
After noticing some intermittent issues with packet loss on the legacy server located in chicago we reached out to our server host provider and found out about a DDOS (Denial of Service) attack against their upstream provider. Because of this, we were affected intermittently today by lag spikes. This issue is now resolved.
NOTICE - Legacy Server UP
Working with our host, we were able to get the filesystem recovered and repaired (and backed up) so legacy is now back online. Connecting to tgif.network via hotspot or browser will now point you back to the legacy server. Policies on prime concerning legacy(insecure) connections may change in the next few days. We will give everyone time to adjust and make sure all setups are stable. Contact us to report any issues.
NOTICE - Legacy Server DOWN
We were sent a warning about upcoming maintenance from our host provider for legacy but unfortunately after a routine update there seems to be some issues with the version that was installed and we are in the process of fixing things on our end while they fix theirs. In the meantime, we thought it would be a great opportunity to test the prime server with the full load of both legacy and prime combined.
What does this Mean?
-Whether your hotspot is configured to connect to legacy or prime, it will end up connecting to prime while we fix legacy.
-If you notice issues with quality after connecting and have a hotspot connected to tgif and another one to prime, and both are on using the same talkgroup number then try removing one of those hotspots and reconnecting.
We Are fixing this as fast as we can and are working with our server host. Will update you here. -T

NOTICE - Server Maintenance
Our server host will be doing maintenance which may cause an interruption in service sometime early morning on August 21/22. We are also testing a development test build of the server so you may notice some dropped packets or strange issues today at times but this is only temporary. If you notice any problems after August 22 please report them to us.
NOTICE - New Token System
If you login with a suffix appended to your hotspot id it must be two digits long, a single digit will not work. Repeater's now may also login with two digit suffixes.
Active Talkgroups
Added active talkgroups under monitoring menu item. Updated cache system, talkgroup and user info will update every 15 minutes. (Things like talkgroup name if changed will reflect changes on lastheard after max 15mins)
Talkgroup Profile Management
If you have requested a talkgroup and were approved there should now be an option under the menu item with your callsign called 'Manage Talkgroup'. If you don't see it, send us an email.
Talkgroup EDIT
Talkgroup EDIT is not showing for some Admin's in their menu, we are working on the problem and hope to sort it within a week. -Resolved 7/16/2020
